One of the things that amazes me the most is how much society has shifted to embrace the notion that fathers are optional. We are not optional. As much as possible, we should strive to make sure that both parents are in their childrens lives. Marriages and relationships will not always work out, but that child is always going to be yours.
We do not only pass on physical traits, we pass on personality traits, genetic tendencies, quirks, etc to our offspring. Sometimes challenges like addictions, run in families. Parents are valuable not just for the money we provide, but for the love we give and the guidance we provide. We take the lessons that we've learned from our own parents and lives and pass them on. I am afraid that too much of this is being lost in todays' world. We need our Dads. Even I as an adult, have not outgrown my need for my Dad.
Just something to reflect on. It is my hope that Uplifting Fatherhood! will be a vital part of bringing our daddies back to our communities.

A New way is possible
Uplifting Fatherhood-A New Way
Mission Statement:Uplifting Fatherhood will work to restore Fathers to the Black and Brown communities. We will accomplish this by connecting fathers to resources, servicing the “gaps”, Monthly events , case management and community partnerships. Our Model: The Uplifting Fatherhood Program Model is based on a survey of best practices and over 20 years of experience in the non profit field as well as the needs assessments of the founding staff. There are three main components to the Uplifting Fatherhood Model
1.Workshop series: Available to NPO’s, community orgs, adult schools, etc2. Events3. Case Management/Mentoring
Uplifting Fatherhood is not a full service organization, but an “active hub” that offers referrals to partner organizations with follow through and limited case management. (12-20 men). The workshop series and monthly thematic events are framed around a graduated series of 12-18week workshop sessions.
The core of the program is the workshop series. We will offer a series of educational workshops and transformational experiences, designed to support fathers, engage them in the lives of their kids and to stimulate and support personal growth. Each topic will provide 12-24 hours of learning and growth opportunities. Monthly, the UF community (Board, staff, participants, children and family members and supporters) will gather as a whole community to discuss the past week and to showcase, if appropriate what was learned/gained that month. These events will serve dual purposes: to share in the UF mission and to grow the community of support and influence available to our participants.
